Guy Hamilton died at home in Mallorca on 20th April 2016 aged 93. After setting the template for the series with Goldfinger he returned for Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun.

Ian Fleming’s 10th James Bond book, The Spy Who Loved Me, was published by Jonathan Cape on this day in 1962. It’s a bit of an oddity in that it is written in the first person from a female perspective. James Bond only appears for the last third of the novel.
