Today marks the birthday of three-time Bond director Lewis Gilbert, who was born in the London borough of Hackney. He was reportedly reluctant to direct You Only Live Twice when first approached but returned to the 007 series with The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.
Lewis Gilbert directed You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. He died in Monaco on this day in 2018 at the age of 97.
